Each One, Teach One (2012)

by PANU-DISHA -FERGUS-PRIYA

We started our campaign for the World Earth Day 2012 on 1st March 2012 as an Environmental Education Program with just 8-9 Volunteers, We went out to different schools all over Chhattisgarh & Madhya Pradesh. Here we educated the students about the various environmental issues & the threats our Earth is facing today. We invited all the students to come & join us in our campaign for World Earth Day 2012. Still undecided what we would be conducting on that day but we were hopeful to do something big, something different. And the students they were all excited & readily agreed to join us to save their Mother….’The Earth’.

In our Educational Program we covered more than 78 Schools. We put special focus on Government Schools as the students there don’t get much of the Lime Light. But they are equally talented as we are. We discovered that a lot can & has to be done for these kids. So after completing our Educational Program on 15th April 2012 we analyzed & found that we had covered almost 16000 Students & Teachers. The results were really inspiring & helped us to move on with this campaign as were had a big army of students behind us.

Finally we thought about our World Earth Day Program to be held on the 22nd of April 2012 & we decided to ‘Paint for Our Planet’. This painting was meant to include all the various Environmental issues the Earth is facing today & also the different ways we can combat these issues. We also decided that this painting would be large. Large enough to accommodate the imaginations of the students & people from all around Bilaspur City.

So we started working to shape this event. We went to schools in the city inviting them to join us in this event. We also invited V.I.P’S & Government officials from all over the city like District Collector, Speaker of Chhattisgarh Assembly, District Educational Officer, Corporate People from the City & Environmentalists. Some people readily agreed but some didn’t show interest even. We worked day & night before the day of the program & finally the day i.e. 22nd April came….

So on 22nd APRIL 2012 also World Earth Day we started our day early. Our Event kick started at 9 A.M sharp & the students took their places where they would Paint their imaginations. Work started in full force & all the students were in high spirits. We had press personals from all over Chhattisgarh covering this event & other people had also come to visit our event. Our Chief Guest- Shri. Dharam Lal Kaushik with other Dignitaries arrived at the venue at 9:30 A.M. They visited the progress of the painting & took their places on the stage where we had conducted a small felicitation program. After this program we again started the painting with full force. The students were interviewed by the different press people present there.

 As our canvas had the theme of Mixed Media & it was not only limited to painting we had also included the theme of recycled collage where we had used waste Plastic & paper from the city. During the second break the students were provided with drinks & snacks from our side. We had estimated the completion of our canvas in 7 Hours i.e. from 9 A.M to 4 P.M but we happily concluded our painting at 3:16 P.M i.e. within 6 Hours & 16 Minutes. After completion of our painting the observers of this program measured the canvas painting & made the final announcement of the size of the painting. The painting measured 16290 Sqr. Feet i.e. the Largest Canvas Painting in mixed media (Still to be made Official).

This announcement was a great achievement for us the Nature Bodies & it set out a wave of happiness in our whole initiative as we had completed this task. We are thankful to each & every Student, Teacher, Parent, corporate, Dignitary etc who contributed in this event.

As we end this campaign we have received the support of 1250 Volunteers who initially were only 8 in Number. We also are proud to say that more than 16000 students have joined us in this campaign to save their planet Earth & have pledged these many acts of green(Calculated & Given below):

Acts of green: 12000x6 Hrs=72000

                         4000x2Hrs=     8000

                           Total:             80000 Acts of green….

Venue: Railway North East Institute Ground, Bilaspur Chhattisgarh

Timing: 9 A.M to 4 PM

Date: 22nd April 2012

Through this campaign we aimed to bring together students from all over the state & focus their attention to the Global issue i.e. Degradation of our Planet Earth. We educated them so that they could go back home & bring the following into practice. As for our Painting event we wanted to show the world that if we Youngsters are given an opportunity to portray our imaginations we can do a lot & bring about a change in the world. Together Lets be the Change…..
